Optimal IdM Virtual Identity Server
LDAP Virtual Directories, such as Optimal IdM’s Virtual Identity Server (VIS), are not a brand new technology. Instead, they have been around for many years. They have quietly solved business issues without much fanfare or publicity. Only recently, has the topic of LDAP Virtual Directories hit the mainstream.
Virtual Directories make sense in a number of scenarios, often involving multiple directory systems. For example, organizations that add external cloud computing services in addition to their existing internal IT services may end up with multiple sources of information for users, passwords and other data. This is a particularly common challenge when using software as a service (SaaS). Services such as Google Applications often require the provisioning of new users rather than leveraging existing users from an existing directory. This leads to conflicts between the SaaS application and the existing directory system and also leads to lost productivity, higher administrative costs and other issues.
Optimal IdM's VIS addresses each of these challenges. It does this in part by providing a single point of administration across multiple directory systems, whether enterprise or cloud-based. This helps ensure:
- Simplified and better managed environments
- Reduced IT costs and total cost of ownership (TCO)
- Enhanced compliance & reporting capabilities
